A Rivers' Revival
Directed by Yaz Ellis and Jack Mifflin | Dream Wild Films | German | 11 mins
For decades, the Liesingbach — an 18-kilometer waterway flowing through Austria’s capital — was locked in concrete, channeled in the 1930s to protect the city from floods. Now, through rewilding efforts, it has been brought back to life. This short film, created in partnership with Wiener Wildnis, captures the remarkable return of wildlife to the Liesingbach. From beavers and kingfishers to stag beetles and even the world’s most endangered hamster. Once a controlled waterway, the river is now a thriving habitat at the heart of the city.
